One in 20 British students (more than 100,000)
have turned to the sex trade to pay for college, according to a recent
study by the Swansea University Student Sex Work Project . British
students are turning to prostitution, phone sex, and exotic just dancing
to pay the bills. Dr Tracey Sagar, who led the study, said, “We now
have firm evidence that students are engaged in the sex industry across
the UK.” Nears 2/3 said they did it to support their lifestyle, and 56%
said it was to pay basic living expenses. Two in 5 said they wanted to
reduce their debts. The study, which was funded by the Big Lottery
Fund, involved 6,750 students, of which some 5% of men and 3.5% of women
said they had worked in the sex industry. And nearly 22% of all
students said they had considered doing so.
